In 2010, I had an incredible experience first as a consultant for Delphi-General Motors trying to sell one of the biggest asset of the group in Strasbourg (France-East).
Then after more than a year of international negotiations, I became the spokeperson of Delphi to announce that we had to close the plant...!!
Somehow it was a failure but if you want to know the reasons why we had to close with 10 candidates ready to buy the plant, let's chat..
My experience:
- Unions do not always represent the employees,
- big companies pay in France incredible social fees and programs compared to anywhere in the world,
- explain the french culture to a US leader is not easy game,
- big law firms create scenarios without knowing the local laws,
- people work together but systems are stronger
- local public agencias (ADIRA) make an incredible job and are highly committed
- lack of vision could kill any project even the best one, (both side)
- the automotive industry is the most fantastic industry I have ever seen
- the globalization if excessive is not a race but a suicide
