In 2006, few people heard about my actions as President of SOCRATES-Europe, a regional think tank that I created with a friend of mine, Jean-Andre Tsimaratos, ex-director at the European Council.

We developed the network in 5 countries in just 2 years and participated to many international conferences to improve the dialogue between Southern mediterranean region (North Africa) and Northern Europe (the old continent)

Part of my job was to work around the education believing that it was the main driver of sustainability for the region.

During an international conference organized in Alger (Algeria), I was animated the Education Workshop with the Strategic planner of the UNESCO. The purpose of this conference with more than 600 NGO representatives and 5 governments was to create a shared vision of the future

What I remember from this experience?

- more than 600 NGO assisting to this conference were convinced that Education from the unique way to save and sustain the region,

- while we were working in the working, the local state was closing some independent schools which were not following the "national politic"

- we made an official declaration after the 2 days of conference that we finished at 4am the next morning deciding to create an observatory in Algeria to monitor the implementation of our recommendations

- 1 year after all the governments of the region decided to create de EuroMed Summit, a regional initiative to improve the exchanges in terms of everything (business and politics first) and very few programs for Education...!
